FORHAIR FUE Patient Guide 

 

Post-operation Instruction

 

 

 

Congratulation on completion of your FUE session. Aftercare is always as important. Please follow the guide and instruction strictly until grafts are firmly settled down in the recipient area. 

 

 

 

DAY 1 - DAY 13 

 

• Never touch the recipient area (grafts) for 13 days at all costs. 

 

• Take extra care for the first 2 weeks as it is the period that your transplanted hair take a firm hold in the new place. 

 

• For up to 3 days, place a towel over your pillow when sleeping since accumulated anesthesia liquid and blood during surgery may seep out.

 

Scabs on the transplanted area will start falling naturally from day 10-12 during wash. Please do not remove them earlier. You can remove the scabs completely on Day 14. 

 

• Use the provided pillow to sleep in a position that grafts are not disturbed or touched. If not possible, consult your consultant/advisor.

 

Do not smoke or drink for 2 weeks. If possible, avoid them for 4 weeks. 

 

• Avoid activities that increase scalp pressure.

Lifting heavy objects, suddenly bending forward and other activities can increase scalp pressure.

 

Excercisewalking, light streching. light cycle ride are allowed.

Keep your exercise to a minimum and avoid heating, sweating and straining. 

 

 

• Keep your scalp cool (No long bathe, no sauna, etc.)

 

 

 

FROM DAY 14 ~ 

 

You can touch the recipient area. 

 

• You can wash your hair/scalp like you normally do. Don't be too gentle when you touch recipient area. Rubbing, massaging are all allowed. Keeping the recipient area clean is important. 

 

• You can use hair products. Make sure scalp/hair is cleaned well after the use. 

 

Excercise: 

2 weeks after FUE: heavy excercise are allowed, but do not push yourself too hard.

3 weeks after FUE: intense workouts (cross-fit) are allowed. 

4 weeks after FUE: all forms of exercise are allowed including full contact sports (rugby, football, boxing) or swimming.

 

• When you visit a hair salon, barber shop, please note your hairdresser about your procedure so he can be gentle around the surgery areas. 

3 weeks after FUE: hair-cut, shaving head are allowed.

4 weeks after FUE: hair dye, perms are allowed.

 

• Sauna and hot bathe are possible 4 weeks after FUE.

 

• Use of minoxidil is possible 4 weeks after FUE.

 

 

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS in the 1st month

 

• Bleeding (donor area): accumulated anesthesia liquid and blood during surgery may seep out, place a towel over your pillow when sleeping for up to 3 days. 

 

• Swelling: you may have some in the forehead if you had a surgery on hairline around day 3. It will naturally subside. Please do not worry as it will not cause you any long-term harm. In case, the symptom does not improve, consult your advisor.

 

Shedding: transplanted hair would shed around 3 weeks post-op. 

 

• Redness (recipient area): the scalp would turn pink/red. It is temporary symptom and your original color of the scalp will return gradually over the months, 3~6 months on average. 

 

• Numbness (recipient area): this is nothing to be concerned and the symptom is temporary. It may last a period of a couple of months as the nerve receptor repair. It could be felt till 6 months and sometimes takes a year to have complete sense back. 

 

• Itchness (donor area): it is a sign of your scalp is healing and regenerating. Itchy sensation would be intense in the first month. Never attempt to scratch surgery areas. In case, it is too severe to trouble your sleep, consult your advisor for medicine. 

 

• Folliculitis (recipient area): you can see folliculitis (inflammation of hair follicles) forming around hair even with a small pus head around 1 month post-op. It is normal to have a few of them and they usually clear up without treatment. Never try to squeeze them and consult your advisor if you see more than 5 bumps. We recommend topical ointment (mupirocin) if necessary.
